Felix Sanchez has stormed to victory in the men's 400M track and field event at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Sanchez, from the Dominican Republic, won a fiercely tight 400 meter final in 47.63 seconds.

The race came down to the wire as Sanchez pipped Michael Tinsley from the United States to the finish like by just 0.28 seconds.

Team USA's big hope, Tinsley, managed to come across the line in a time of 47.91 seconds, and will have to settle with a silver medal.

For the bronze, home favorite David Greene from Great Britain had the 80,000 crowd on their feet trying to drive him into a medal position. However, Greene feel just short and missed out on the bronze by a nose to Javier Culson of Puerto Rico.

Culson was delighted with his 3rd place finish in 48.10 seconds. Team GB's David Greene could only manage 48.24 seconds and will be bitterly disappointed at only managing fourth place.

Nevertheless the home British crowd are a hard bunch to dishearten and the cheers for Greene would have made anyone thought he had taken gold. The apologetic Greene was given a massive round of applause by his fans who appreciated his desperate push to secure them a medal. However, it was not to be this time, and this race belonged to Sanchez.

Back in the Dominican Republic there will be dancing in the streets and drinking in the bars as the Dominican favorite brings them a taste of gold.
