Despite a suggestion that he may not appear in further episodes, one of the more popular characters on FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show will be back in the future.

Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch) may have been killed in the latest episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show and taken away by the ghost of Edward Mordrake (Wes Bentley), but that doesn't mean he's gone forever.

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently about the end of Twisty and revealed that he would show up again this season.

'American Horror Story' Seasons Confirmed As Interconnected

"Twisty is not over, and neither is Edward Mordrake," Murphy revealed. "They both make triumphant returns. I was shocked to read so many of these 'RIP Twisty' websites and blogs have sprung up. People love Twisty. I think that's due to the power of John as an actor. I think he's just so mesmerizing and sympathetic. We talked a lot about that. He didn't just want to be a killer clown. He wanted an ideology and a backstory, and I think that clown's backstory is so fascinating and bizarre. ... I love him. I loved his performance. He will return."

Twisty was assumed to be one of the bigger villains on this season of American Horror Story so it was a shock to many that he died in the fourth episode on Wednesday. It is not known just yet how Twisty will return but considering Murphy said that Edward Mordrake "is not over" as well, it seems probable that they'll return as ghosts to haunt some people in Jupiter, Fla.

With Twisty out of the way, it looks like spoiled man-child Dandy (Finn Wittrock) will step up as the big villain as he goes on a petulant warpath to cure his own boredom.

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
