King, who remained quiet when it came to filming during the first half of the week, announced on Twitter Friday that they were in fact filming on Halloween. The producer even shared a vague, darkly lit photograph with ominous soft tones and a figure out in the distance.

It's uncertain who will be appearing in this new and terrifying sequence, though it seems that the Victorian supernatural drama is certainly going for a much darker look this season. On Oct. 24 King had declared one scene so "creepy" that it was bound to give him nightmares, posting another vague image on Twitter to entice fans.

The program's first season surely had plenty of surprises and dark secrets to go around, but as creator John Logan pushes the envelope things might just hit uncharted territory with new villains, monsters, and some "dreadful" stories.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
