Doctor Who's Samuel Anderson was just as shocked as fans when he found out that his own Danny Pink would take a shocking trip to the Netherspehere.

Danny's unfortunate collision with a car kicked off the two-part season 8 finale, although it put the maths teacher's future in jeopardy.

"Yeah, I picked up the script and I died, I didn't think anyone died in Doctor Who," Anderson said, according to the "Dark Water" Extra Episode. "I was like, 'Excuse me?' I didn't expect that at all when I started...The story line is tragic, man, but it's beautiful."

Despite the tragic nature of Pink's demise, the final two episodes gave Anderson a chance to test his acting chops.

"Eps 11 and 12 were such challenging ones for me...By the end of the season, Moffat has kind of immortalized Danny Pink," Anderson said, according to Doctor Who Magazine (via Doctor Who TV). "Coming out the other end of Eps 10,11 and 12, and realizing, 'Wow, I've survived, I've made it, I've really pushed it,' kind of makes you want to go, 'One more year, c'mon!'"

Find out what's next for Danny when the second half of the finale, "Death In Heaven," airs this Nov. 8 on the BBC and BBC America. Click the video below to see a preview.
