While many men would be pleased with having American Horror Story: Freak Show's Stanley's (Denis O'Hare) particularly large feature, the character actually considers it to be a terrible burden.

'American Horror Story' Seasons Confirmed As Interconnected

As previously revealed by American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy, con artist Stanley has a 13-inch penis, which was referred to in the third episode of the season. O'Hare recently spoke with Out Magazine about Stanley, who also happens to be gay in a time period where that was not okay.

"It's actually a burden to Stanley," O'Hare said, of the character's long member. "It isn't an unalloyed benefit. It actually marked him as a freak."

O'Hare added that he enjoys Murphy's style of having something humorous on the surface turn out to be a little darker when you look deeper.

"It marks Stanley as abnormal," he said. "Being a gay in the 1950s is abnormal. It's an exploration of what is normal."

Stanley is a con artist who is trying his hardest to nab some of the performers in the freak show to sell them to a museum. As Freak Show continues onward, O'Hare's schemes will continue to get complicated.

"He's constantly weaving all these webs," O'Hare said. "I sometimes get lost in my own plans trying to figure out what's happening. He's part vaudevillian, part conman, part murderer."

As for whether or not his character's penis will come into play at any point in the future, O'Hare said that "there's a funny element to it that pops up (again, pardon the pun) in episode 9."

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
