Matthew Keller will also take on the roll of criminal informant, but not for the FBI. The imprisoned con artist will find his way out of lock up thanks to Interpol.

Keller was arrested during season 3, and Neal will be shocked to find him running with the Pink Panthers in season 6. By time episode 3 ("Uncontrolled Variables") rolls around, however, Keller's new affiliations will be revealed, and the unique situation will require the two CIs to work in tandem.

While the FBI and Interpol will be willing to partner up, Neal will take issues with Keller's MO when the latter chooses a "sweet, unsuspecting young woman" as their mark on a Panthers' heist.

"The thing I loved about Keller in the first place was that this was a guy who was sort of Neal's alter ego," explained series creator Jeff Eastin, according to TV Line. "The thing that saved Neal from becoming Keller was Neal did have a heart, and Keller didn't."

Now that the two are working side by side, their old friendship will start to rekindle.

"For a long time, they were close friends. I would say best friends at one point," Eastin told TV Line. "So that begins to come back, and Neal does do a lot this year in terms of looking at himself through that lens [of], 'What if I became Keller?' Because really, the idea was that Neal always kind of existed in that twilight zone between wanting to be Peter, but realizing he is Keller."
