Since a recent cover story on Terminator: Genisys hit the stands, a decent amount of information about the movie has surfaced, but very little was revealed about Matt Smith's character. A new report speculates about the nature of Smith's role in Genisys.

After Entertainment Weekly's cover story revealed that Smith's character will be playing a close ally of John Connor (Jason Clarke) in the movie. "It's like going on tour again if you're Pink Floyd-the audience always wants to hear some of the old songs," Smith said. "There are enough nods to the past that people will feel satisfied."

The Terminator Fans suggested that the actor's famous history with Dr Who, might, in some way, play into his part in the movie. Digging deeper, the website stated that this might lend Smith's character a dark side in the movie, going as far as to suggest that things could go awry later, as his character starts to go mad.

Terminator: Genisys Is A "Reset" That "Shifts The Course Of Everything"

EW's cover features Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) raging on a bike, as Sarah handles steers the ride, with Reese behind her holding out his heavy-weight gun. The alternate cover features Clarke as Connor and Smith, whose character name not been revealed yet.

Here's an excerpt from the cover story by Nicole Spring giving away a bit about the plot of the fifth in the series:

"The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent's Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor's mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won't ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected."

Terminator 5: Genisys has been directed by Alan Taylor, and also stars Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) will be playing Detective Cheung, who will "arrest Kyle and Sarah when they arrive in 2017."

Terminator 5 is scheduled to release in July 2015.
