Jodi Arias Retrial Update: Lawyers File Motion To Dismiss All Charges Against Her, Parents Ask For Funds [VIDEO]
The retrial for Jodi Arias began on Oct. 20 in Phoenix, Ariz. and has once again sparked headlines, especially within the last few days.
Jodi Arias' Sentence Retrial Begins, Details
Arias' defense team filed a motion late Monday night to dismiss all charges against her, alleging prosecutorial misconduct. The motion contends a computer forensic expert hired by the defense discovered that thousands of files, which were mostly pornographic, were deleted from the computer of Arias' ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, while it was in Mesa Police custody.
When Arias was convicted last year the prosecution disputed her testimony that she walked in on Alexander viewing pornography. Police personnel linked to the trial and current retrial have testified that there was no pornography of any kind on Alexander's computer.
The subject of pornography is extremely instrumental to the case since the prosecution has painted an image of Alexander to be a devout Mormon while Arias is portrayed to be a sexual slayer.
Furthermore, The Arizona Republic reported that as an alternative to dismissal, the motion asks for the death penalty to be dropped. Judge Sherry Stephens, who is hearing the retrial, has asked both the prosecution and the defense not to comment on the case.
Also, over the weekend, Arias' parents took to social media and uploaded a video to YouTube, which can be seen below asking for further donations to fund their daughter's defense team and thanking those who have donated thus far.
The retrial continues today in the journey to determine the fate of Arias.
