Ribeiro reportedly injured his back on Wednesday during rehearsals for next week's semifinals show, according to TMZ. The actor was apparently trying to overcompensate for his groin injury that he suffered earlier in the season.

Now, his injured back may be such a serious case that he may have to pull out of the competition altogether.

The actor had to skip rehearsals on Thursday in order to get an MRI and he now has 48 hours before the doctors can make a decision on whether or not he can compete anymore, per TMZ.

"We can confirm Alfonso was injured during rehearsal," a rep for Ribeiro's rep told TVGuide.com of the incident. "He is currently under medical evaluation. It has not been determined whether or not he will be able to perform on Monday."

This injury could not have come at a worse time for Ribeiro, with only two weeks left of Dancing With the Stars. He is currently a semifinalist with his pro dancing partner Witney Carson, and many believed that the pair could go all the way and win the Mirrorball Trophy. After all, they have received multiple perfect scores this season are often at or near the top of the leaderboard.

It remains to be seen if Ribeiro will be able to compete further in the competition. Story developing.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
