Wednesday night's much anticipated 'ripped from the headlines' inspired episode of Law and Order: SVU left fans satisfied, but were viewers expecting something more?

This jaw-dropping episode staring Meagan Good and The Walking Dead's Chad L. Coleman aired Wednesday night, and despite the fact that fans are usually able to follow the detective's lead and determine what to be right or wrong, this episode was a little different.

According to the New York Observer, there was no twisty ending that fans can usually expect during the show.

"Often times at the end of an SVU episode there is a shocking twist; someone dies or something happens that proves that the detectives were right the whole time in their dogged pursuit of someone or something. This time there was no such twisty ending, and while the defendant was convicted there was no complete satisfaction for anyone, and that was an amazing plot point in and of itself."

In the new episode, detectives are called to investigate a case of domestic abuse after one of the detectives received footage of former athlete turned sports caster (Coleman) assaulting his girlfriend (Good). Ultimately, this wound up being an open and shut case for Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the others.

Sound familiar? The episode was based on ex-Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice, who has recently been making headlines because of his demotic violence dispute.

Just last week, SVU, along with Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., all participated in a two day cross over event special that exceeded viewer's expectations. This Dick Wolf collaboration was just what SVU fans wanted to see and now they are craving more.

Unfortunately SVU has gone on hiatus for the next three weeks but the show will return on Dec. 10 with a brand new episode.

Viewers can catch brand new episodes of Law and Order: SVU every week on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. on NBC. Below is a sneak peek of the new episode.
