The United States has taken the 2012 London Olympic Games by storm after supplanting themselves ahead of China atop the medal standings this past Thursday; as they captured 5 gold medals and 10 total.

China was only able to land 1 gold medal by Chen Ruolin's women's 10-meter platform performance. They walked away from the day's competition with 4 total.

The United States went on to obtain gold through impressive team sport performances in women's soccer and water polo. They even came out golden in a few of the individual events as Ashton Eaton and Christian Taylor prevailed in the decathlon and triple jump respectively.

Claressa Shields also gained a gold by roughing up her women's boxing competition in the middleweight division.

In the silver department for the U.S.A., Will Claye and Trey Hardee both received medals in the decathlon and triple jump respectively.

In women's open water swimming, Haley Anderson swam to a 2nd place finish. Swimming as a whole has been crucially important to America. Hardly murky, the waters have brought the United States amazing success as they have racked up 16 golds and 31 total medals thus far.

Going into the 13th day, America is up on their biggest rival China overall in both gold medals 39-37, and total by 90-81.

Although still relatively close, Friday will play a huge part in determining just who has the proper momentum going into the final home stretch.
