Monday the retrial resumed, which entailed further cross-examination by Juan Martinez on the defense's expert witness, Dr. L.C. Miccio-Fonseca.
Miccio-Fonseca has been on stand for days now giving testimony about Travis Alexander's struggle over who he was.
Prosecution Digs Into Jodi Arias' Defense Team's Expert Witness
Miccio-Fonseca is a psychologist who is heavily educated in sexual relationships and she has examined various messages between Alexander and Arias since she initially took the stand.
Monday wasn't much different. Miccio-Fonseca and everyone else inside the courtroom listened to her read whatever messages Martinez requested her to read aloud and then she'd state things along the lines of, "Let us not get distracted by the sexual behaviors. It is the dynamic that we are trying to look at," as reported by AZ Central.
Martinez also spent a large period of time attempting to debunk the defense's assertion that Alexander viewed child pornography, which Arias witnessed. Martinez specifically asked Miccio-Fonseca about Arias' personal journal. Arias chronicled many of her sexual interactions with Alexander in this journal.
AZ Central further reported that Martinez directed his questioning on this subject matter to span over four days in January 2008. Arias wrote in her journal on Jan. 20 and not again until Jan. 24. She began her Jan. 24 entry by saying that she hadn't written lately because there had been nothing "noteworthy to report," which raises questions since allegedly Arias said it was on Jan. 21 that she witnessed Alexander watching child pornography.
"If we are to believe the defendant, that means she is even lying to herself in this journal," Martinez said. Miccio-Fonseca denied that this information was substantial since not everyone writes everything down if they keep a journal.
Furthermore, an audio recording was played in court of a sexual recording between Arias and Alexander as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix. Arias covered her ears while it played.
The retrial resumes today and according to AZ Family the retrial will not be wrapping up before Christmas like originally planned. Judge Sherry Stephens confirmed this yesterday and courtroom blogger Jen Wood said, "The judge notified the jury that they probably aren't going to finish until January. When in January we don't know. But they need to submit any concerns that have to the judge so they can go over that with the lawyers and make sure they can still retain a jury."
Outside of the courtroom, Arias' parents have taken to YouTube to thank those who have donated to fund their daughter's legal team and have asked for further donations. The video can be seen below.
