Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) may have drifted apart following the birth of Hope, but it looks like the pair could be getting together as The Originals gets into its holiday episodes on The CW this month.

"I wouldn't go writing off Hayley and Elijah anytime soon," creator Julie Plec told TVLine on Monday. "Along with the holidays often come some joy and cheer in that area, too."

Elijah hasn't been the same since he was captured and tortured by his mother, Esther (Sonja Sohn) and so he might begin to rethink his priorities. Hayley's upcoming reunion with her daughter during the mid-season finale also might give them hope, though Elijah won't be easily swayed.

"He genuinely believes that if he loves too deeply, he will hurt the person that he cares for," explained Plec, though she added that Elijah's distance has in fact been hitting Hayley. "She'll finally get to confront him about that."

Whether or not the holidays will bring Hayley and Elijah back together, Plec promised that fans will get "a sense of where everybody stands in that relationship" by the end of the season.

As for Klaus (Joseph Morgan), he'll be busy trying to kill Esther (Sonja Sohn) and Mikael (Sebastian Roche) before they discover that his daughter is still alive, which is likely to happen by the mid-season finale.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
