Emerald Fennell, who plays Patsy Mount on Call the Midwife, dished on the heavy subjects that the series revolves around, which sound like a pretty big challenge for her.

'Call The Midwife' Gets Renewed For A Fifth Season

On Saturday, Daily Mail posted an interview with the actress who talked about how she and other cast members handle certain storylines that are clearly sensitive topics.

"We have to handle these tragedies- whether it be losing a baby or something dreadful happening to the mother- in a way that is very truthful and sensitive," Fennell said. "I am conscious of the fact that we are dealing with things that women are very affected by."

The actress then pointed out that some scenes demand big requirements.

"Sometimes a particular wrenching storyline will demand that we cry for hours- and it's interesting when you do that, your body thinks something has happened, even though your mind knows that it hasn't," Fennell said. "Often I'll go home and continue crying. I never have to 'try' to make the tears flow. Just reading the script usually has me in floods."

The British star then explained how everyone takes care of the newborn babies and how they have to be extra careful with them.

"The newborns we work with are all under 12 days old," she said. "We cover them in grapeseed oil to make them look like they've just been born, which makes them terrifyingly slippery! Thank God, no one has ever dropped a baby; Terri, our real midwife, is on set at all times to make sure."

The Call the Midwife Christmas special is expected to air in late December while new episodes are supposed to air in March 2015.
