Baby names are on the rise from one surprising source - the characters from Netflix's prison comedy-drama Orange Is the New Black.

'Orange Is the New Black' Actor Jason Biggs May No Longer Be Starring In Series Going Forward?

A new report from BabyCenter, via The Today Show, lists the top 100 baby names of 2014, with one intriguing trend being the rise of names from OITNB in addition to Netflix's other big show, House of Cards.

"This is the year of the binge-watching baby name," said Linda Murray, BabyCenter's global editor in chief.

'Orange Is the New Black' Author Piper Kerman Teases 'Big Departures' Ahead For Season 3

Among character names featured on Orange Is the New Black that are seeing huge upticks in baby names are Piper (who is played by Taylor Schilling in the series), which is up 28 percent, Galina (Kate Mulgrew), which is up 67 percent and Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), up 35 percent.

Sophia (Laverne Cox) is the most popular baby name for girls overall, though it is such a common name that it cannot necessarily be attributed to the Netflix series.

"Sophia is arguably the Jennifer of its generation," Murray observed. "It's clearly entered the baby name hall of fame."

Orange Is the New Black may be an odd source to choose from when it comes to baby names, but in today's binge-watching culture it may continue to be a trend further into the future. The main characters from House of Cards, Frank and Claire, are reportedly up 19 and 14 percent, respectively.

Orange Is the New Black returns for season 3 in mid-2015 on Netflix, though the streaming service has not yet announced a specific release date.
