'Thor 3' Movie News: Idris Elba Tired Of Playing Minor Character In Marvel Universe, Does He Want To Be Green Lantern For DC? [VIDEO]
After he released information about a cameo in the next Avengers movie, Idris Elba gained some heat from the Marvel brass, mainly Joss Whedon, about spoiling the movie. Could this be the end of him in Marvel as he moves to become a different hero for DC?
Is 'Thor 3' Set To Become Marvel Phase 3's 'Winter Soldier?'
Movie Pilot speculated on Wednesday that there are many reasons why Elba is done with Marvel and one of the main reasons is that he is tired of playing such a minor role in one of their franchises. The actor plays Heimdall in the Thor series.
The site goes on to say that it doesn't seem like Elba is against doing big budget movies as he has been in both Prometheus and Pacific Rim in recent years, but the main difference between those and the Marvel movies is that he is starring in them.
The First Look At 'Thor 3' Could Come During 'Avengers 2'
Elba has gained acclaim for his work both on television with Luther and The Wire and on films with his most recent role in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, but now he is feeling like he should be bringing in more leading roles in these big movies rather than showing up in just a few scenes.
One solution: Elba could be looking to leave Marvel in order to take over the role of John Stewart as Green Lantern for DC. The character is on the schedule for the newly planned universe and by playing this role, Elba gets to be in a big budget franchise as well as be the lead in it.
With the Thor franchise possibly coming to an end soon, it would seem like Elba will finish out his contract, and maybe die in the next movie, as a way to get out of working with Marvel and move to DC.
