Aaliyah Biopic Lifetime: Alexandra Shipp Talks 'Tough Moments' Of Playing Late Singer, 'She's So Different From Me' [VIDEO]
Actress Alexandra Shipp has overcome lots of criticism and backlash after she took on the role as late singer Aaliyah in Lifetime's Aaliyah: Princess Of R&B biopic; now the star has opened up about the difficult moments of playing the singer.

She spoke with New York City's WBLS and said, "There were moments where it was really tough because she's so different from me. She had all of this success...There were so many factors that are different."
But it wasn't all bad. Shipp also said she could relate to Aaliyah's life, like many girls can.

"And yet I think every girl knows what it's like to fall in love for the first time," she said, referencing Aaliyah's alleged romance with R. Kelly that was portrayed in the film. It also touched on the More Than A Woman singer's love life with Damon Dash.
"It's fun being able to hop into those shoes and dance those iconic dance moves and sing some of her really big songs that struck a chord with people."
She gave fans a peek into what it was like to film the movie in one short month. She revealed five day work weeks and an intense filming schedule. She said during the weekend she would work on dance moves and recording the music that she covered.
"I really wanted to bring that earthy power that she had in her voice. I wanted there to be an art with it."
