He told Daily American recently, "My life is an open book. I've always been very good at juggling a million things at one time, like my mother does.
We all have ups and downs and much is given while much is required. If the Lord can lead me to it, he can lead me through it. I'm a Christian and I fail every day, and know there's always something I could have done better. It's not for lack of effort, however."

Todd went on to reveal that Kyle was officially diagnosed with bipolar back when he was 18. But he noticed patterns of the condition when he was just a teen. He confessed that he often blamed himself for his son's mental state. However he did add that their family has a history of struggling with bipolar.
"It feels like we've spent a million dollars going from one treatment center to the next. He is closely monitored, and he is not to drink or take drugs. I know that when his mental illness is under control he has one of the kindest hearts of anyone."
Still, even though Todd tries to help control his son's condition, he said that he has often been one to "self-medicate" which only leads to a "downward spiral, including associating with people he shouldn't have been with."
