Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is usually the one most likely to whimsically jump off on a murderous rampage, and yet it is Elijah (Daniel Gillies) who will be losing control during The Originals midseason finale on The CW this Monday.

'The Originals' Midseason Finale 'Packed' With Drama

"When we left Rebekah had just snapped Elijah's neck because she realized that something was off kilter with Elijah," explained executive producer Michael Narducci to Entertainment Tonight on Friday. "He had slaughtered a bunch of innocent people, and perhaps had done so for no real reason. He wasn't really threatened. He could have just compelled them, so he is not fully himself."

To protect baby Hope, and figure what is going on with Elijah, Rebekah (Claire Holt), Klaus, and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will meet up at a safe, hidden location. "You can expect to see Klaus and Kayley arrive and spend some time with the family," teased Narducci, though he did emphasize that the family bonding time won't last for long.

Klaus & Jackson To Face Off On 'The Originals'

"They have to decide exactly what they're going to do as a family to address this threat this is posed by Esther," said the producer, referring of course Elijah, Klaus, and Rebekah's mother (played by Sonja Sohn). "The advantage that they now have is that Esther does not know where that baby is or that the baby is alive, and they want to take care of her before the secret is revealed."

Even if they do take care of Esther, Klaus still refuses to believe that his mother's sister will come for the child, as was agreed upon in a deal Esther made centuries before. In exchange for the ability to have children, she offered up the first-born child for each generation of the family.

Most shocking perhaps was Narducci's confirmation that Rebekah will not be taking Esther up on her offer to become human. "She's going to have a very strong protective instinct [towards Hope] and is going to decide to get involved in the takedown of Esther," he explained. "That will be the big big story point for her in this episode."

A human life would allow Rebekah to have the children she has always wanted, but it looks like her dedication to her baby niece might just win out. In order to protect the child, she cannot afford to lose her status as an original in the fight to save Hope.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
