Those wondering why the role of Commissioner James Gordon was not cast for Batman v Superman seem to have an answer. Gordon will reportedly be dead by the time Batman v Superman rolls around, according to a new report by Badass Digest.

Apparently there is a memorial plaque commemorating James Gordon in the Batman v Superman script, suggesting there is at least a reference to him at some point in the film. Gordon was played by Gary Oldman in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, while a younger version of Gordon can be seen on Fox's Gotham, played by Ben McKenzie.
The report also notes that Gordon's death is not entirely significant in Batman v Superman since much of the action is slated to take place in Superman's (Henry Cavill) home city, Metropolis, not Batman's (Ben Affleck) Gotham.
Additionally, the report discusses Alfred Pennyworth (Jeremy Irons) and how he is similar yet different from the portrayal of the butler in the past. Apparently the 2016 film features Alfred telling Bruce a story involving "two competing samurai" who clash as they try to save a village. It's not hard to connect the dots that this is probably in relation to Batman and his relationship with Superman.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
