'Downton Abbey' Season 5 Premiere: Mary Will Be 'Awful' To Edith Who Will Start The Upcoming Year 'In A Pretty Bad Place' [VIDEO]
It looks like the sister relationship on Downton Abbey is about to take on a much more heated turn based on what Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) had to say about the characters.
Is Lady Mary Going To Confess Something To Anna On 'Downton Abbey?'
Considering that Edith went through a dark time with losing Michael Gregson and having a child in secret, her sister Mary (Michelle Dockery) is not going to be making her life any easier.
"Mary obviously doesn't know anything that's gone on. She's sort of a bit confused as to why she won't let Gregson go and get on with life...she doesn't realize that they were deeply in love and Edith had his child and had to give it away," Carmichael told Access Hollywood, posted on Monday. "It's incredibly painful. It makes those moments when Mary is awful to Edith that much worse."
Is A 'Downton Abbey' Character Going To Sing?
Carmichael then mentioned how things will begin for her character in the upcoming season, saying that she will be pretty miserable over Michael.
"He's the love of her life. With the beginning of the season, you'll see how devastated she is to not have heard from him. Having had to give up her daughter as well, it just makes the heartbreak even harder," the actress shared. "So she's in a pretty bad place."
Despite having difficulties, the actress pointed out that Edith is still strong.
"She's brave, Edith. She's sort of tenacious. And she doesn't give up and she kind of keeps it all in," Carmichael said. "I really think you really like her and side with her because she's not giving up and letting life defeat her, in a way."
Downton Abbey Season 5 premieres in the United States on Sunday, January 4 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
