The only reason it took so long to announce the show's renewal was because of trouble in negotiations between TNT and Warner Horizon. Deadline reported that the two sides "went back-and-forth on license fee and size of the pickup."

Rizzoli & Isles reached a total of 13.6 million viewers per episode this past season as reported by Deadline.
The sixth season will be its largest season yet. Previous seasons have ranged between 10-16 episodes each.
In other Rizzoli & Isles news, Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander will be back on TV screens as Detective Jane Rizzoli and Chief Medical Examiner Maura Isles, starting Feb. 17 for the rest of Season 5 at 9 p.m. ET.
The fifth season left off with a cliffhanger in September during the episode called Burden of Proof. Jane jumped off a bridge to go into the water after a notable county prosecutor who slipped.
