Green has received much critical praise for her turn as Vanessa, largely in part because of this scene. It not only showed the "rage, intensity, and pain" that Logan had hoped she's portray, but the scene also explored Green's range as an actor in an incredibly demanding role.

While she may not be recognized at the Golden Globes in 2015, on Dec. 1 The Wrap announced that she'd been nominated for Best Actress In A Drama Series at the Satellite Awards.

The show managed to score two other nominations as well, including Best Actor In A Supporting Role In A Series for Rory Kinnear's portrayal of Frankenstein's Caliban and Best Television Series (Genre).

With a second, longer season just around the corner, perhaps broadening viewership could give the series a better chance for the Golden Globes next year.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
