Chelsie Hightower has participated in the two biggest dance competitions on television, but she recently admitted the distinct difference between the two of them.

Hightower has competed on ABC's Dancing With the Stars and Fox's So You Think You Can Dance, but she believes the latter is more focused on dancing itself than the former.

"Dancing with the Stars is about the celebrity and his or her journey," Hightower admitted in a new interview with Sioux City Journal.

As such, the personality of a contestant and their partner tend to be what the voters look for.

"They're going to vote for the person they relate to the most," Hightower revealed. "You've got to be sell-able."

Hightower competed in seasons 8-15 of Dancing With the Stars, never reaching the finals with any of her partners.

"After 19 seasons, people start to catch on as to what works and what they think the audience wants to see," she noted. "I'm not like that. I'm not going to be someone to put on a show [to] create drama."

The dancer admitted that there is "so much that's out of your control" that having the Mirrorball Trophy as a goal is difficult.

"You try not to keep score. You're a cast. You're supportive of everyone. But, at the end of the day, it is a TV show," she said.

It is unknown if Hightower will ever return to Dancing With the Stars but there is the 20th season coming up, so she may at least make an appearance at some point.

Dancing With the Stars returns for its landmark 20th season in March on ABC, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
