Some might have thought that cancellation might have slowed Longmire down, but instead it catapulted the series into an even greater cultural phenomenon.

A. Martinez Talks 'Grittier' New Season Of 'Longmire'

This week Longmire scored a place at number eight on People Magazine's Top Ten Most Watched Prime-Time Cable Dramas Of The Year.

The series joined the hugely popular Sons Of Anarchy (FX), American Horror Story (FX), The Walking Dead (AMC), Game Of Thrones (HBO), True Blood (HBO), and others which have faired well critically and commercially over the year.

Longmire made the list even though the crime drama was cancelled by A&E this year after three seasons. The show was the network's highest-rated scripted drama and the second highest-rated series total behind Duck Dynasty. Fans flocked to Twitter as Warner Horizon brought the series to other networks, holding Twitter Stampedes with the hope of keeping the spirit of the show alive. For months the program lingered in limbo, uncertain as to whether it would be picked up by another network before it found a home on Netflix.

The only "cancelled" series to make People's list, the show is a testament to precisely how influential fans can be when they come together.

The writers have already reconvened to put together the upcoming season. Production is set to begin in March.

Longmire will return for a fourth season On Netflix in late summer or early fall of 2015.
