Jessica Simpson's Father Joe Simpson Officially Charged With DUI
This week, Joe Simpson, father of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, was officially charged with two misdemeanors counts as a result of his Aug. 4 arrest on suspicion of DUI.
The former minister was charged with one count of driving under the influence and another count for driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher, E! News reported after speaking with the Los Angeles City Attorney's office.
The maximum sentence Joe, 54, could receive is six months of jail time, 36 months' probation and a $1,000 fine.
Law enforcement told TMZ that Joe was driving with a .12 blood-alcohol level. Joe was pulled over by police on Aug. 4 at 10 p.m. in San Fernado Valley, Calif (specifically, Sherman Oaks, Calif.). The following day he was booked and released without posting bail.
Although it is unknown where Joe was before the incident, TMZ reported that the sobriety checkpoint was two miles away from Casa Vega, a restaurant Jessica's typically frequents.
On Aug. 4 his daughter Jessica tweeted, "Responsibility has drastically changed my life! Saturday night drink of choice... WATER!"
His day in court comes Aug. 30.
Jessica has recently made headlines for giving birth to her son Maxwell Drew John on May 1 and for appearing (and for releasing the first official photos of her newborn) on the front cover of People magazine for a reported $800,000. After her 75-pound weight gain during pregnancy, she is now the latest spokesperson for Weight Watchers and is receiving a reported $4 million.
