Showtime's Penny Dreadful may have been shut-out when Golden Globe nominations came out earlier this month, but actor Harry Treadaway is gaining some serious traction.

On Thursday the actor, who plays the legendary Victor Frankenstein on the Showtime series, was listed by Indiewire as one of the ten best breakout TV actors of 2014.

Coming in at number six, Treadaway was praised for the careful way in which he balances the complex character's vulnerability, intensity, fear, and moral confliction. Earlier this year he starred in indie horror flick Honeymoon alongside Game Of Thrones alum Rose Leslie, for which the UK native has also gotten some attention.

Frankenstein is in for quite a bit of trouble when the Victorian supernatural drama returns for its second season in 2015. For the first time he has begun to empathize with his first creation, Caliban (Rory Kinnear), but he will continue to struggle with the science of it and the higher moral obligations that come with it.

Towards the end of season one, Frankenstein reached a turning point when he chose not murder Caliban when he had the opportunity. This says a great deal, especially since Frankenstein still resents Caliban for murder of the sweet and curious Proteus (Alex Price).

Recently the series celebrated three nominations at the Satellite Awards, including nods for Kinnear, Eva Green (Vanessa Ives), and the show for best drama.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
