On Monday, Rolling Stone reported that Levine told them that he loved performing Lost Stars with his contestant Matt McAndrew during the finale.

Lost Stars is a song that Levine performed for the musical romantic comedy-drama Begin Again that released theatrically this past summer. Levine's role of Dave in the movie was his first ever acting role in a movie.

Keira Knightley who had the role of Gretta also performed a version of the song for the movie. The song can also be found on Maroon 5's album V as a bonus track.

Lost Stars was co-written by Gregg Alexander, Danielle Brisebois, Nick Lashley and Nick Southwood.

Levine told Rolling Stone, "I loved working with John Carney on Begin Again, and the music that Gregg and Danielle created is amazing."

He said he and McAndrew "just went for it" when the opportunity arose for them to perform Lost Stars as a duet.

"I was looking to create a really strong moment doing a duet and thought the song really showcased Matt's falsetto. It was one of my favorite performances all season," Levine revealed.

During the Season 7 finale last week, Levine explained the choice of Lost Stars as, "It's beautiful and passionate just like Matt."

The Voice returns in February 2015 for Season 8.
