'Castle's Rick Now Forced To Work From A 'Private Investigator Angle' Outside Of NYPD?

The next episode of Castle is appropriately titled Castle, P.I. and features the title character assuming his new position after being removed from the NYPD.

"After being forbidden to work with Kate Beckett or the 12th Precinct, Castle obtains a P.I. license and shows up unannounced at Beckett's crime scene, hoping to investigate alongside her as a private eye," the synopsis for the episode reads, as provided by SpoilerTV. "But things don't go as Castle had planned."

Castle show runner David Amann recently explained what the climate of the show will be like when it returns for the second half of the season.

"When we come back for episode 11, a couple of months will have passed. Things have found a different kind of equilibrium," he explained to TVGuide.com this month. "Castle's not at the precinct, but he's writing and keeping busy, and Beckett and everybody's kind of acclimated to his absence."

And even if Castle has to go through the back door in order to continue to solve cases, he will do it.

"Just as they have acclimated to his absence, suddenly he appears at the scene having acquired his private investigator's license," Amann noted. "He presents himself as a private investigator with the sole intent and purpose of getting back into the 12th Precinct through the back door. That's not going to go his way but that's not going to stop him from trying."

Castle returns for the second half of its seventh season on Monday, Jan. 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
