Rosie O'Donnell Survives Heart Attack, Lucky To Be Alive, Considers it a "Miracle"
Rosie O'Donnell, 50, is at home recovering from a heart attack she had last week.
"200,000 women die of heart attacks every year in the US," she blogged on Monday in her usual verse form. "By some miracle i was not one of them."
O'Donnell, 50, realized she was suffering from a heart attack thanks to a quick Internet search of her painful symptoms. She also took a Bayer aspirin since she'd seen it recommended in various advertisements.
"Thank god/saved by a tv commercial/literally," she wrote.
She, however, did not call 911. It was not until the following day that she saw a cardiologist and had an EKG done.
After doctors discovered her coronary artery was 99 percent blocked, the former talk show host said, she had a stent inserted.
"They call this type of heart attack/the Widow Maker/i am lucky to be here," she blogged.
Her rep Cindi Berger provided a statement to People magazine: "She is now home and resting comfortably. She is very, very lucky."
Earlier this month, O'Donnell, 50, shared news that her fiancée Michelle Rounds was diagnosed with the rare disease desmoid tumors.
O'Donnell said her heart attack symptoms began on Aug. 14 after she helped "an enormous woman" get out of her car in a Nyack, N.Y. parking lot.
A few hours passed by and her chest began to ache, both arms were sore (feeling as if they had been bruised), she became nauseous and had clammy skin.
"i googled womens heart attack symptoms/i had many of them/but really? - i thought - naaaa," she wrote in her blog.
According to her blog, 50 percent of women don't dial 911 when they're suffering from a heart attack.
She urges her fans not to become another statistic. "know the symptoms ladies/listen to the voice inside/the one we all so easily ignore/CALL 911/save urself."
