Penny Dreadful may not have the same prestigious award nominations as other freshman shows this year, but the Showtime series is still going strong amongst fans nonetheless.

Director Reveals Favorite Episode Of 'Penny Dreadful'

Voting is currently open for the IGN Best Of 2014 list for TV and the Victorian supernatural drama is one of the leading programs with four nominations. This puts the series in a tie with Hannibal and ahead of HBO's Game Of Thrones, which only received three nods. True Detective, hailed by many as the best new show of the year, had five nominations.

Penny Dreadful was recognized not only with a nods for Best TV Horror Series, but also Best New TV Series and Best TV series overall. Actress Eva Green, who plays the formidable and complex Vanessa Ives, received a nomination for Best TV Actress and her flashback episode, Closer Than Sisters, received a nod for Best TV Episode.

Showtime Releases 1st Official Trailer For Season 2 Of 'Penny Dreadful'

The nominations this year seem to reflect a preference for programs shut out of traditional award ceremonies, including the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation and the BBC hit Orphan Black. With votes coming in from viewers instead of the industry professionals, the results are strongly reflecting what people have enjoyed watching in 2014.

Production for the sixth episode of Penny Dreadful's second season wrapped in Dublin earlier this month. Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime in 2015 to film the season's remaining episodes.
