Rihanna was interviewed by Oprah on Sunday, August 19, where she declared that she is still in love with ex boyfriend, Chris Brown. The young music artists split after Brown famously assaulted Rihanna in a February 2009 incident. However, the Barbados singer announced on "Oprah's Next Chapter" that she will always love him.

"We love each other and we probably always will, and that's not anything that we're going to try to change," Rihanna said to Oprah regarding Chris Brown.

"He was my first love and I see that he loved me the same way," Rihanna continued. "I truly love him. The main thing for me is he's at peace. I'm not at peace if he's not happy or he's still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds that peace."

Many stars, including Olympian, Sanya Richards-Ross and comedian, Ross Matthews, tweeted their approval towards Rihanna's confession. However, Brenda L. Thomas, author of the 2007 memoir: "Laying Down My Burdens," says that Rihanna's response towards Brown is not unexpected.

"She probably still thinks that some of it was her fault," Thomas said according to "Philly." "[My ex] hit me with a sledgehammer and I went back to him . . . he broke my collarbone and I went back," she continued. Thomas' memoir describes years of domestic abuse and torture from her ex-husband.

"After I left my husband, it took me at least six years to cut things off emotionally," Thomas continued to say. She also added that Rihanna "will need professional help," according to the publication. Thomas admitted to having gone through years of therapy herself.

The 24-year-old explained to Winfrey how her relationship with Brown spiraled out of control in 2009: "We were very young and very spontaneous. We were falling in love and going at a really rapid pace. We forgot about ourselves as individuals."

Following the arrest for domestic violence after assaulting Rihanna in 2009, the R&B singer received five years of probation and one year of domestic-violence counseling. Rihanna said she was able to forgive Brown after she worked on her relationship with her father, Ronald Fenty.

Brown is currently dating model Karrueche Tran. His career stalled the first two years following the arrest, however, he topped the music charts for the past year and also won himself a Grammy this year.
