Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) finally hooked up on The CW's The Originals this month.

'Tiny' Time Jump Could Mean Big Changes On 'The Originals' In 2015

It was during the midseason finale that Elijah and Hayley finally hooked up and they made every moment count as they went at it on top of a table in front of the fireplace. In fact, the scene proved so provocative and so satisfying that it managed to score a place on TVLine's list of 2014's Sexiest TV Moments.

Fans have been waiting for the pair to get together since the very beginning, though their relationship has been wrought with complications. At first Elijah stayed away because Hayley was carrying the child of his brother, Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Then she became a hybrid and Hayley spiraled. Elijah knew he could not help her and so he left Klaus, also a hybrid, to assist Hayley in adjusting.

Critics Say 'The Originals' Deserves A Golden Globe Nod

The fact that the pair finally got together should have been cause to celebrate, but as it turns out this was not the ideal union viewers had been waiting for. Elijah and Hayley finally gave into their feelings for one another only after she told him that she might marry Jackson (Nathan Parsons) in order to save her werewolf pack. Obviously upset, Elijah believed it was the right thing to do and told her to go through with it. Confused and heartbroken, the two hooked up for what might have been the first and last time.

The Originals returns on The CW for the remainder of its second season Monday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
