American Horror Story: Freak Show standout Finn Wittrock recently discussed his character Dandy's various murders and what it was like finding out he was the real villain of the season.

Wittrock's Dandy has quite the body count at this point on American Horror Story, having killed his own mother Gloria (Frances Conroy), his housekeeper Dora (Patti LaBelle) and a variety of others. The actor recently admitted to Vulture that it was sad to see several of the characters be killed off.

When Vulture noted that they were "sad" when Gloria died, Wittrock replied, "Dandy was, too. I think he just knew she had to go. One of them had to go."

He said one scene that was quite difficult to film was when he was in his underwear while cover in blood.

"It was very sticky. But at least I got to cut off Matt Bomer's arm. It was sad to see Patti go. I will say that. She's pretty awesome."

At the beginning of the season it would have been hard to predict that Dandy would be the real villain of the season when Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch) was terrorizing the residents of Jupiter, Fla.

"Yeah, I think you're diverted by the clown," Wittrock said, of Twisty's short run. "And John Carroll Lynch was so good in it, and the design of the clown was so scary and terrifying. I think that they wisely realized that it's better to keep it short and have the clown be the scariest clown you've ever seen and then move on, you know?

"And, yes, Dandy revered the clown, he puts him on a pedestal, he wants to be him, and then he basically becomes him. I mean, he becomes his own version of him. He's still Dandy. I think he inhabits the clown's spirit and that liberates him to do all the nefarious things that he does."

It remains to be seen what sort of "nefarious things" are ahead for Dandy as even though there are only three episodes left, he could still do a lot of damage.

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. The series returns with a new episode on Jan. 7.
