'True Detective' News: Does HBO Crime Drama Need A Longer 2nd Season To Tell Full Story? [VIDEO]
While True Detective has found success with the anthology format, it seems the HBO drama might benefit from a longer season.
Find Out If New 'True Detective' Cast Will Be Able To Recreate Famed Season One Partnership
Matthew McConaughey (Rust Cohle) and Woody Harrelson (Marty Hart) shined during the program's first season, which only ran for eight episodes. According to some viewers, however, eight episodes wasn't enough to wrap everything up.
On Monday the fan site True Detective Rumors argued that the single serving storyline format forced the season to wrap everything up too fast. Since nothing could be left to be explored in season 2, writer Nic Pizzolatto had to put his characters on the clock and rush through those final episodes.
'True Detective' Might Not Translate Overseas
With such rich characters and complex stories, True Detective would possibly thrive through an extended season. It would create more work for Pizzolatto, who pens every episode, but it would allow for more time to have each storyline explored.
The second season of True Detective will surround the events following the murder of a city manager in California. The cast will be helmed by Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Dezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Additional upporting cast members hail from ABC's Castle, USA's Suits, HBO's True Blood, and Showtime's Dexter.
Production is currently underway in California.
True Detective returns on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
