The new director for Transformers 5, has been rumored to Be Jonathan Liebesman, and that could be both a good thing or a bad thing for the Age of Extinction sequel.

Latest Updates About Transformers 5

As Bay has reportedly left the franchise, it is being speculated that Liebesman will be taking the reins from him to heml Transformers 5. What's interesting is that Liebesman most recently directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was produced by Bay. The film is stylistically similar to the Transformers franchise in someways, and Liebesman might have learned something under Bay's guidance too.

So in choosing Liebesman to direct the fifth installment, the producers of the sequel of Age of Extinction might be ensuring that the film sticks to the imprint of the first movie and the franchise in general by getting a director whose work might bear some resemblance to that of Bay's. But at the same time, as Transformers: Age of Extinction wasn't a hit with critics and has been a general disappointment even though it raged at the box office, could mean repeating that would not be the best idea. Interestingly enough, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been nominated with Age of Extinction in the category of worst movie at the Razzies this year too.

The film has been nominated in the category of the worst film of the year. It is no secret that the movie was a major disappointment with the critics and a lot of fans even though it reigned on the box office.

The Guardian reported that the movie had beat all the major releases of the year cashing in a cool $1.087 billion. The report added that a lot of the money could be attributed to the fact that the Chinese market also had a big roled to play in making the movie a commercial hit. Age of Extinction is followed by Guardians of the Galaxy which made $772.3 million at the box office, and the Angelina Jolie starrer Maleficent ranks third.

Transformers: Age of Extinction hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
