'American Horror Story' Season 4: Will 'Freak Show' Do Better At The Emmys Than Golden Globes? [VIDEO]
FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show only has two episodes left and while the show went home empty-handed at the Golden Globes on Sunday, there is still hope at the Emmys.
'American Horror Story' Star Kathy Bates 'Screamed Out In Pain' At Golden Globes?
Jessica Lange (who plays Elsa Mars) and Kathy Bates (Ethel Darling) were nominated at the Golden Globes for their performances in Freak Show but both of them lost. The actresses had much better luck at the Emmys last August, with both of them taking home trophies for their respective performances in AHS: Coven.
American Horror Story has done very well at the Emmys since the beginning. It has received 17 nominations every year of its eligibility with Lange nominated every year alongside the show itself. Other nominees over the years have included Sarah Paulson twice, Frances Conroy twice, Connie Britton, Denis O'Hare, Angela Bassett and James Cromwell, who won for his role in Asylum.
With Freak Show the cast has grown even larger, and none of them have particularly stood out from the rest other than Dandy (Finn Wittrock), arguably. With Lange, Paulson (Bette and Dot), Bassett (Desiree), Bates, Conroy (Gloria, Wittrock, Evan Peters (Jimmy Darling) and even John Carroll Lynch (Twisty the Clown) in the mix, Emmy voters could go any number of ways.
It is entirely possible that Emmy voters may tire of American Horror Story as well. While they have been kind to the show over three seasons, the organization doesn't always love certain shows forever. Freak Show has been a divisive season, critically, so anything could happen.
American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
