After announcing that she was born intersex, Taylor Lianne Chandler has given some more specific details on what exactly that means.

Taylor Lianne Chandler Opens Up On The Grief She Went Through For Michael Phelps

On Monday, Sean Green Show released an interview with Chandler, who claims to have dated Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. She explained that there are several concepts of what intersex is and that people could be intersex without knowing it.

"Normally what it means is there's some sort of birth anomaly or birth challenge meaning that its possible that there's some physical ambiguous genitalia," Chandler explained. "But some intersex people don't even know they're intersex; it could not show itself until puberty, some people go their whole lives and it's not found out until they die and they have an autopsy."

The woman then made it clear that intersex is not the same as being a hermaphrodite, which is its own particular subject.

"People think in term of hermaphrodites back in the day, but technically a mammal- which is what we are- can't be a true hermaphrodite," Chandler said. "The only true one are worms. There's no one that has fully functional male and female parts with reproductive birthing capability."

Chandler also made it clear that despite being born with ambiguous genitalia, she's always known that she was a female.

"As soon as I could walk and talk, I said I was a girl," she said. "I never said I wanted to be one, I just knew I was. I dressed as a girl, acted like a girl. But it wasn't until I was older, almost pre-teen before genetic testing and things were done to kind of take it to another level and that's when they discovered I had a uterus."
