She definitely campaigned hard for that Oscar nomination, but it looks like all that work wasn't enough for Jennifer Aniston. Despite her efforts, the Hollywood actress got snubbed from a Best Actress nomination for her role in Cake at this year's Academy Awards.

Is Jennifer Aniston Jealous Of Her Brother's Pregnancy News?

The nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles, with the Best Actress noms going to Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild).

This isn't the first disappointment that Aniston has gotten for Cake. The film has also gotten slammed by critics, with not everyone impressed with her latest box office offering.

Is Jennifer Aniston Feeling Pressure To Get Pregnant From Her Family?

According to Claudia Puig of USA Today, she urged her readers to pass up on what she calls a "half-baked" Cake.

She wrote, "Cake is a murky meal, not really knowing what it wants to be. Is it a glum tale of depression and grief or a redemptive tale of unhappy misfits who find one another?"

She added, "While it's good to see Aniston take a darker, deeper role - a more hollow-eyed version of the unhappy woman she played in 2002's The Good Girl - the story surrounding her in Cake lacks the necessary ingredients."

Scott Mendelson of Forbes.com seems to be echoing that same sentiment while calling the film nothing more than a "small-scale character study."

He wrote, "At the risk of judging a would-be Oscar contender on its alleged merits as an Oscar contender, I will admit that Jennifer Aniston is very good in the film. But the performance is only a revelation if you happen to think Jennifer Aniston isn't a very good actress, a position I do not happen to hold."

Cake is playing in selected cities now and is opening nationwide on Jan. 23.
