The Big Bang Theory remains the no. 1 comedy on television with high ratings week to week despite being in its eighth season. Jim Parsons (who plays Sheldon), Simon Helberg (Howard) and producer Bill Prady all discussed why it's become such a hit with audiences, chalking it up to creator Chuck Lorre.

"Chuck was a musician before he was a writer, and one thing all of these shows have in common is a rhythm," Parsons said, per Entertainment Weekly. "These shows [perform strongly when in repeats]. You've seen them three times, but it's like a pop song - its got rhythm ... He'll come in when were rehearsing and clean it up."

Helberg added that it is this rhythm in addition to the ability to tell the truth in the comedy.

"He's a barometer for the truth. Like Jim was saying about the rhythm, he has perfect pitch for the truth. You know if [we hear] Chuck laughing, you know the majority of people will also laugh," Helberg said.

Prady noted that Lorre's enjoyment of the show actually helps more so than if he were to not enjoy himself.

"To Simon's point, Chuck genuinely enjoys the shows he's producing - and that's not always true. Some make shows that they think others will enjoy."

The Big Bang Theory is currently in its eighth season with the show's cast and crew feeling comfortable knowing that there are more seasons to come. Back in its seventh season, the sitcom was renewed for three seasons, putting its ultimate season count at 10. It remains to be seen in CBS will wish to renew the sitcom beyond 10 years.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
