The Mentalist fans are still holing on to hope for a season 8, but series writers are less convinced that the CBS drama will continue.

'The Mentalist' Series Finale Surprise Guest Announced, Actor Confirms 'White Orchids' Character

After barely scrapping through the season 7 with a shortened episode order, The Mentalist is expected to end its run with this year's "White Orchids." Although there is always an outside chance for an eighth season (And we mean way, way outside - that chance is lying somewhere in the Andromeda galaxy), former Mentalist writer Jordan Harper believes the drama is done for good.

"There are no plans for a season 8 of The Mentalist," Harper, who now writers for Gotham, informed a viewer on Sunday.

Not that the cast would be averse to returning once more.

"I loved working with everyone on the show," actor Rockmond Dunbar (Abbott) told TV Line. "It was one of my favorite jobs that I've ever had, mainly because of the people that I worked with. I'm definitely interested [in returning]."
