Betty White: Petition for Actress to Appear at DNC Convention to Counter Clint Eastwood's RNC Appearance
The Republican National Convention ended last week with mystery guest Clint Eastwood speaking to an empty chair, portrayed an invisible Obama. His famous speech had caused an internet stir, including fans to create "Eastwooding Memes."
Tonight, the Democratic National Convention will kick off in Charlotte, and many are speculating that Betty White will make an appearance at the convention. A petition to bring Betty White reads: "Clint Eastwood, the Republican's 'mystery guest' at the RNC, gave a bad name to older Americans everywhere with his absurd and awkward-to-watch introduction of Governor Romney. You know what? Governor Romney can have Clint Eastwood and his improvisational skills because President Obama has the one and only Betty White!"
So far, the petition has gathered over 5,000 supporters and the number continues to grow. A photo of the actress and Obama speaking in the Oval Office has been making the rounds on the internet. White is known for her public endorsement of President Obama.
Jay Wolf from Sacramento, CA, stated his reason for signing the petition on change.org. "Because we should do everything better than the Republicans. And Betty is better than Clint."
Kathryn Granado from Phoenix, AZ, wrote "I love the idea of an older, wise woman like Betty White countering Clint Eastwood's (unfortunately one-sided) arguments. You go, girl!"
"I think betty represents the senior citizens well. I think she represents me and anyone concerned about living old age with dignity and humor," said Renee Castle from Lafayette, IN.
White, who is 90 years old, continues to work in the industry that she loves, as she films her two series, "Betty White's Off Their Rockers" and "Hot in Cleveland".
White has won seven Emmy Awards, including a whopping 20 Emmy nominations.
