'Call The Midwife' Season 4 Premiere: Actress Dishes On the 'Exciting World' Coming That Will Involve 'Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll?' [VIDEO]
It sounds like the characters on Call the Midwife are about to experience life in a 'not' so innocent generation as they roll into the 1960's.
'Call The Midwife' Will Have A 'Terribly Upsetting' Storyline Involving Child Neglect
On Sunday, Jenny Agutter, who plays Sister Julienne on the series, explained to Radio Times how the new season is going to change where people find a side of themselves that can be pretty wild.
"Suddenly this exciting world bursts open," Agutter said. "The Pill completely changed things. Poplar [where the series is set] didn't have so many babies and that reduced a lot of pressure on families. Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll."
'Call The Midwife' Actress Dishes On Being 'Truthful & Sensitive' With The Storylines
Does this mean that the nuns are going to be embracing this hardcore lifestyle?
"My goodness, no," Agutter said. "It hasn't quite got to that."
The actress then mentioned how challenging it can be to play Sister Julienne.
"I do love playing a nun. You'd think it would be easy but it's one of my more difficult roles," she said. "It's so far from anything I can imagine- that dedication, tolerance and faith- which is very different to 'religion.' I like it when I have a chance early in the day's filming to be in the chapel. It must be marvelous to have the contemplative psalms and plainsong chanting as part of one's life."
Call the Midwife Season 4 is expected to premiere in the United States this spring on PBS.
