Christina Aguilera Talks Weight, Lucky Magazine: Loving Her Curvy Frame, Getting 'Bulldozed' By The Music Industry And 'The Voice'
Christina Aguilera's doesn't look the same as she did when she sang "Genie in a Bottle," but that's fine with her. In fact, "The Voice" judge loves her curvier physique and doesn't take the criticism to heart.
"Actually, the challenge I've always had is being too thin, so I love that now I have a booty, and obviously I love showing my cleavage," she told Lucky magazine in their October issue.
She is all for showing off one's assets, but the most important thing to complete any outfit according to the star - confidence.
"Hey, if you can work it and you can own it, that confidence is going to shine through," Aguilera said.
Not only has her body and style changed, but her music has undergone a major transformation, thanks to Aguilera breaking from her music label's mold.
"When you're young, it's so easy to get bulldozed," she said. "There were these two ladies who worked at the record label who always wanted to come to fittings and dress me up like a Barbie doll. It was disgusting."
However, Aguilera "Stripped" her bubble gum pop image and created powerful ballads such as "Beautiful" and "Fighter." She also made a stir with her revealing and provocative outfits in her music video for "Dirrty."
"I was 21 and fearless. It was a really great turning point for me to be the artist I'd always wanted to be," she said.
In recent years, Aguilera has suffered much scrutiny for her 2010 album, "Bionic," her performance in the movie "Burlesque," and for her, what many might call, less-than-stellar rendition of the national anthem during the 2011 Super Bowl.
"Difficult moments in life can either get you down or they can inspire you."
Although Aguilera loves her job as a judge on NBC's "The Voice" (which starts again on Sept. 10), her first passion will always be singing. In the next few months, she'll drop a new album.
"If you love 'Fighter,' you're going to love my new album. As a 30-year-old woman, I've been uncovering my independence, and it's been really fun to explore in the new songs," she admitted.
As for "The Voice," fostering new talent is another passion of hers.
"It's a big responsibility to help someone express themselves as an artist. I take it seriously."
