Following in the footsteps of the Emmys and the Golden Globe Awards, True Detective's season 1 stars lost out at the SAG Awards on Sunday.
Taylor Kitsch Throwing Around Football In Latest 'True Detective' Photos?
Matthew McConaughey (Rust Cohle) and Woody Harrelson (Marty Hart) were up for their performances on the HBO crime drama's hit first season, but both actors failed to secure a win.
This is just the latest upset in a long line of True Detective losses, which began when predicted winner McConaughey lost out at the Emmy Awards in 2014.
So is True Detective losing momentum? Or is it taking the Mad Men route of acclaim without individual credit? For seven seasons Mad Men has enjoyed a critically acclaimed run on AMC without Emmy wins for stars like Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks, who have received multiple nominations.
HBO Releasing First 'True Detective' Season 2 Trailer?
Perhaps True Detective's biggest award season disadvantage is putting all its eggs in one basket. Best Lead Actor is a competitive category for any award show, and the fact that the HBO drama has consistently had its two primary, and in some cases only, nominations under this label might be the reason it hasn't scored an acting win.
It's possible season 2, with more characters in more roles, might have a better shot come the Emmys this year.
True Detective's second season is set to star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdans (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Production is currently underway in California.
True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
