Super Bowl Sunday is nearly upon us, and the greatest battle of the evening may not be between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.

Meet 'The Blacklist' NSC Director, Liaison & New Baddie In 'Luther Braxton' PHOTOS

As soon as the NFL's biggest night of the year draws to a close, NBC will wage war on another front with an intense battle between Raymond 'Red' Reddington (James Spader) and The Blacklist's latest baddie, a fellow by the name of Luther Braxton (Ron Perlman).

"Right out of the gate in the episode that plays after the Super Bowl, you see that the terrain has become considerably rockier, requiring decisive and aggressive action on the part of Reddington," Spader teased in a behind-the-scenes featurette. "And, of course, Reddington drags everyone into the mess as always."

Captured by the CIA and taken to a secret black site, Red will need Liz (Megan Boone) and the FBI to come to his rescue. Red's life will become particularly complicated when Braxton turns out to be the master criminal's warden.

"The character [Perlman] plays is somebody that Reddington has a history with," Spader explained. "They're very different people."
