Agents of SHIELD's Grant Ward won't pick a side in the SHIELD/HYDRA battle.

The former double agent is playing to his own agenda, but his mission is a little fuzzy now that he managed to reunite Skye (Chloe Bennet) and her father. Paired with Agent 33 (Ming-Na Wen), Ward (Brett Dalton) now needs to decide if hitting the road without any allegiance is really the right choice.

"He's hitched his cart to a horse before - HYDRA- and it hasn't really turned out so well," Dalton told TV Line. "So, now he's like, unhitching the cart and hopping on his own horse and going his own way."

It remains to be seen whether or not this new path will lead Ward to redemption.

"Though [Ward] can be heartless, it's always in the service of something, an intention that is good," Dalton said, according to TV Line. "So I do feel good about his future. The writers could have given Ward a quick redemption arc, and that would have been the end of it, but they've left him raw, unpredictable... a complete wild card."
