Rihanna had a big night at MTV's Video Music Awards on Thursday night, and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was there to give her affectionate congratulations after she won Video of the Year.

The Barbados-born singer, 24, took home the evening's top award for her "We Found Love" video, and as she excited the stage with her Moonman statuette, Brown met her at the stairs and gave her a hug and a peck on the lips.

The kiss looked more friendly than romantic, but it has still stirred speculation the pair is rekindling their romance after Rihanna gave a tearful interview to Oprah Winfrey in which she said she still has deep feelings for Brown.

"It's awkward because I still love him," she told Oprah. "My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me. I have to maintain it and suppress it. When you don't understand those feelings you can make a lot of mistakes."

The interview on "Oprah's Next Chapter" made headlines nationwide for Rihanna's frank discussion of the 2009 incident in which Brown physically assaulted her. A photo of her bruised and bloody face leaked in one of TMZ's biggest scoops of all time and went viral online.

But based on their close contact at the VMAs, it seems the pair has put the past behind them.

Rihanna got rave reviews for the simple white dress she wore on the red carpet with a new super-short haircut, and Brown had reason for celebration as well - he took home the Best Male Video award for "Turn Up The Music."
