Nicki Minaj's Mitt Romney Endorsement Provokes Death Threats
Nicki Minaj is getting some unwanted attention after giving Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney a shout-out.
The rapper is getting death threats online after she seemed to throw her support to Romney in a song from Lil Wayne's new mixtape, "Dedication 4."
"I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / you lazy b-tches is f-cking up the economy," she rapped.
The lyric has provoked an angry response on Twitter, with some users calling for Minaj's death as a result of what they see as an endorsement.
Tweets directed to Minaj contained violent messages like "If Romney wins, I hope you die" and "somebody please kill Nicki Minaj."
While many media outlets have interpreted Minaj's support of Romney as a joke, a column by Ebony's Michael Arceneaux asserted that some young listeners may not be able to pick up on the sarcasm.
"Black teenage girls (and everyone else listening to Nicki Minaj) aren't all that different from the white adults consistently fooled into voting against their own interests based on things more knowledgeable people would easily dismiss as completely idiotic," he wrote.
Even though Minaj is getting tons of heat for her political rhyme, it seems she may not be actually planning - or even able - to vote for Mitt Romney. In the three states where she has lived, Minaj has never registered to vote.
