Claire Holt's Supergirl upset this month could mean good things for fans of her Rebekah on The Originals.

Marcel & Rebekah's Reunion Marred By Her New Mortality On 'The Originals'?

Back in December Holt had been considered a serious contender for CBS's Supergirl series, but on Jan. 22 TVLine confirmed that Glee alum Mellisa Benoist has officially been cast in the title role.

So what does this mean for Holt? Will she reconsider spending more time on The Originals? Starring in her own series would have meant fewer guest appearances on The CW. Now that she won't be committed to a full season on CBS, however, it might just mean that Holt could be back on The Originals sooner than expected.

Hayley Turning On Klaus As 'The Originals' Continues?

The actress was last seen on the show during the midseason finale, when she was transferred out of her body and into that of a mortal witch (Maisie Richardson-Sellers).

While Rebekah will likely remain mortal for the remainder of the season, her original vampire body has been secured at the compound. Without Supergirl, Holt could return as Rebekah as early as the season finale, or possibly the beginning of the program's confirmed third season.

The decision will depend on which direction the writers intend to take the show, as well as how fans respond to Richardson-Sellers as the new Rebekah.

Holt had left The Originals halfway through season 1 on good terms and has an open invitation to return at any time. Will she come back? Or pursue a new television series?

The fate of the famous Mikaelson might just depend on her decision.

The Originals continues on The CW with the remainder of its second season on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
